Hymmen is satisfied with result of this year's LIGNA

Numerous visitors were attracted by "Future-shaping technologies for your surfaces and wood products" - the motto of this year's Hymmen booth at LIGNA in Hanover - and could come to know the latest innovations as well as the established technologies of the machinery and plant engineering company from Bielefeld.

All interested parties were amazed by the surface samples that Hymmen presented from its patented Digital Lacquer Embossing technology (DLEplus): you could hardly distinguish them from real wood. At least as much attention was paid to the sophisticated press coating and handling technology that Hymmen now intends to use increasingly in the production of engineered wood such as CLT. All flanked by Hymmen's cloud-based smart2i Industry Intelligence solution, which monitors process data across manufacturers and machines and is used for production optimization via individual analysis tools.

Hymmen counted a total of over 300 qualified contacts from 40 countries worldwide, more than half of which will result in a project offer in the short or medium term, after the trade show. The result of Ligna 2023 thus far exceeded the management's expectations. "Even though we had just as many leads overall as 4 years ago, the interest of our visitors already seemed to be much more concrete than at the trade fair before the Corona break," Dr. René Pankoke, managing partner and CEO of Hymmen summarizes his impression of the trade fair week.

There was always a positive and future-orientated atmosphere at the company's booth with its open und friendly design. Following the momentum of the first day of the trade show, the booth team could already celebrate a new project agreement on the second day of the event: this involves a laminating line with peripherals that will be used in the Northern European furniture supply industry. As usual from previous events, there were fewer trade visitors from the industrial context on Thursday and Friday. This enabled in-depth project discussions with individual customers and encouraged networking with other exhibitors in the industry.

Overall, for Hymmen the newly awakened world's leading trade fair for the wood-based materials supply industry was a successful show. "The trade fair is an opportunity for technology-focused personal exchange with the other market participants - be it project-related or more visionary in nature. And finally, in terms of cultivating relationships, LIGNA is an indispensable part of our industry's range of events," Pankoke concludes.

Card image cap An inverted forest of millions of trees has held Venice for more than 1600 years

It is an millenary engineering work. For more than 1,600 years, Venice remains firm thanks to a unique foundation system in the world. These are millions of wooden posts stuck with the tip down in the muddy background of the lagoon. This base, which looks like an inverted forest, is composed of aler, oak, aliso, pine, fir and elmo. Thanks to this millenary engineering work, the city was officially founded on March 25, 421. Taking advantage of the laws of physics, monumental buildings have been built on land that seemed unstable. Only Rialtos bridge rests on 14,000 piles, while the Basilica of San Marcos sits over 10,000 oaks. No one knows how many wooden posts there are in total under the entire city, but the Venetian foundations have more than 16 centuries fulfilling their function, unlike modern materials such as concrete or steel, which have a projected life of 50 years on average as according to Alexander Puzrin, professor of geomechanics and geosystem engineering at the Federal Polytechnic University of Zúric.
