Mendoza, venue of the VII Latin American Forestry Congress: An environmental meeting with impact
More than a thousand participants gathered at the Dr. Emilio Civit Congress and Exhibition Center for the "carbon neutral" event that addressed the vital role of the forest in challenging and changing times.
Mendoza was the setting for the VII Latin American Forestry Congress and the V National Forestry Congress, held from March 27 to 29 at the Dr. Emilio Civit Congress and Exhibition Center. More than a thousand people, including leaders from the public and private sectors, NGOs, universities, and research and training institutes, gathered at this highly relevant event. Under the motto "The vital role of the forest in complex and changing times", the congress stood out for its commitment to sustainability by being called "carbon neutral", thanks to the management of The Carbon Sink.
The Minister of Culture and Tourism, Nora Vicario, highlighted the importance of this meeting, not only as a space for debate on environmental issues, but also because of the economic and social impact it represents for the province of Mendoza in terms of tourism.
During the congress, more than 20 parallel activities were carried out, which included exhibitions, debates and thematic tables on various topics such as climate change, ecology, biodiversity, forest genetics, social sustainability, forestry education, biometrics, forestry, productive innovation and competitiveness. economic. In addition, 9 full-day symposia, 12 thematic tables, 4 technical visits and other specialized meetings were held.
One of the highlights was the panel of women foresters, in which panels of cases were presented both internationally, with speakers from Chile, Canada and the FAO, and nationally, where five Argentine women shared their testimonies and experiences. in different fields of forestry. On this occasion, a guide to good practices to promote the inclusion of women in the sector was also officially presented.
From the organization of the congress, they highlighted the resounding success of the event, with the participation of prominent speakers and renowned national and international representatives. The presence of companies, universities, government entities and relevant actors in different areas demonstrated the interest and commitment in the sustainable development of the forestry sector. The congress exceeded all expectations and established itself as a key space for the exchange of knowledge, the generation of opportunities and the promotion of the forestry industry in the region.
