Vida Silvestre and ArgenINTA promote a national consultancy for the restoration of forest landscapes in Argentina
The Argentine Wildlife Foundation and the ArgenINTA Foundation signed a technical cooperation agreement to begin a consultancy aimed at the Restoration of Forest Landscapes (FPR) in the seven forest regions of the country. The work seeks to generate technical and scientific inputs that guide the design of provincial and national restoration programs, in support of the implementation of Law No. 26,331 on Native Forests.
The consultancy is developed within the framework of the ProCLIM-AR Project, a bilateral cooperation initiative between the governments of Argentina and Germany, promoted by the International Climate Initiative (IKI) of the German Federal Government, through the Ministry of the Environment, Nature Protection, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection. The technical work is coordinated by specialists from INTA and CONICET, belonging to the INTA Villa Dolores Forest Station (EEA Manfredi) and the EEA Río Gallegos. The coordinating team is composed of Dr. Laura Cavallero (CONICET), Dr. Dardo López (INTA) and Dr. Pablo Peri (INTA–CONICET, coordinator of the National Forestry Program of INTA). The general technical coordination is in charge of Ariel Medina, forest specialist at the Fundación Vida Silvestre Argentina, with the support of Biól. Damián Glaz (GIZ) and the Directorate of Native Forests of the Undersecretary of Environment of the Ministry of the Interior. More than 2 researchers from 1 provinces participate in the initiative, representing seven CONICET institutes, five INTA units and six national universities. This articulation ensures a comprehensive and federal scope vision, which combines scientific knowledge, public management and territorial participation. Results with impact on public policies The consultancy products will be presented in workshops with representatives of the Federal Environmental Council (COFEMA), in order to strengthen the integration of forest restoration in public policies for the conservation, management and recovery of degraded landscapes throughout the country. The Forest Landscape Restoration component is part of the project Promote low-carbon and climate-resilient development paths for Argentina – ProCLIM-AR, implemented by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ). In Argentina, the responsible consortium is made up of the Fundación Vida Silvestre Argentina —which leads the initiative—, the Avina Foundation and the GIZ, with the participation of the Forests Directorate of the Environment Undersecretary of the Ministry of the Interior and the Sustainable Production Directorate of the Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries Secretariat of the Ministry of Economy.
