Professional update | CPIA and INTA will present new willow cultivars developed through genetic improvement

The genetic improvement of willow and new technological alternatives for its use in different productive and environmental systems will be the focus of a professional update talk organized by the Professional Council of Agricultural Engineering (CPIA) and the National Institute of Agricultural Technology (INTA). The activity will take place on Wednesday, November 25, 2026, at 2:30 p.m., in virtual mode and with free participation, upon registration.

During the meeting, the main characteristics of the new series of willow cultivars developed within the framework of the INTA Salix Genetic Improvement Program will be presented. This technological offer brings together materials selected from different species, with characteristics and aptitudes for use both in the forest-industry and in environmental applications. The proposal will allow us to know the cultivars currently available, their attributes and their possibilities of use according to the production systems, the site conditions and the objectives of each project. In this way, it seeks to provide technical information that contributes to expanding the alternatives for choosing and applying this species. A specialist with experience in genetic improvement of willows The dissertation will be given by agronomist Teresa Cerrillo, researcher at INTA and reference in genetic improvement at Salix. Cerrillo is a graduate of the Faculty of Agronomy of the University of Buenos Aires (FAUBA) and has a Postgraduate Specialization in Genetic Improvement Vegetable, awarded by the Center for Higher Agronomic Studies of Zaragoza, Spain. He began his professional career at the Center for Forestry Research and Experimentation (CIEF), in the area of willow and poplar improvement, where he worked for 14 years and contributed to generating a large population of genetic improvement of willows. Since 2004 she has worked at INTA as a leading researcher in this line of work. As a result of her activity, she is the author of numerous publications and technical articles and has developed 47 improved willows, of which 30 are registered in the National Registry of Cultivars of INASE, intended for productive and environmental applications.
