Sierras de Comechingones: they fight a forest fire on the interprovincial boundary in Córdoba and San Luis
The forest fire detected on Monday, October 19 in the Sierras de los Comechingones, affected an estimated area of ??between 10 and 15 hectares, according to preliminary information obtained during an overflight carried out this Tuesday morning. The flames advanced mainly over sectors of low vegetation, in a mountainous area that was difficult to access. The aerial evaluation made it possible to identify the extent of the compromised sector and organize the entry of firefighters to work directly on the ground.
The focus was noticed on Monday, around 7 p.m., when signs of fire began to be observed from different points in the region. Since then, emergency teams have been monitoring the situation and receiving information from neighbors who have visibility to the affected area. During the morning of this Tuesday, an aircraft from the National Fire Management Plan, based in Córdoba, flew over the place to evaluate the behavior of the fire. According to the first surveys, the advance of the flames would be decreasing, although it has not yet been reported that the focus has been contained. From the Directorate of Prevention and Emergency Management they reported that members of the Los Molles Volunteer Firefighters are being transferred by helicopter to the affected sector. Once there, they must travel on foot to intervene at the points where the fire remains active. The operation also includes the use of a hydrant plane that will work from the Santa Rosa del Conlara Airport. From that base, water discharges are planned to accompany the ground tasks and reduce the intensity of the flames. The geography of the Filo de Merlo makes it difficult for vehicles and equipment to enter by land, so the aerial transfer of personnel allows access to sectors that would otherwise require prolonged trips through the mountain. Until the morning of this Tuesday, October 20, the affected area remained as an initial estimate and the extinction of the fire had not been officially communicated. Emergency personnel continued with the containment operation and monitoring of the sectors where fire activity persisted. Salta, Jujuy, Tucumán, Catamarca, La Rioja, San Juan. They are with a high fire danger index until October 23. "We remember to take extreme prevention measures and avoid any use of fire in non-authorized areas," they indicated from AFE.
