FORESTAL LAS MARÍAS SA
Origin Forestry in Las Marías began in the 1960s, with the planting of 500 hectares of pine and eucalyptus trees. The genetic material originally used was local, primarily from seedbeds selected by the National Institute of Agricultural Technology (INTA) and the National Forestry Institute (IFONA). Beginning in the 1980s, new sources were incorporated, with materials from the United States, South Africa, and Australia, of higher genetic quality. Production Currently, the Las Marías Group, through Establecimiento Las Marías and Forestal Las Marías, has approximately 6,768 hectares forested with loblolly pine, elliottii pine, hybrid pine, eucalyptus, and other high-value species, achieved through a constant search to optimize resource use, locating each species in the soil conditions they require. In particular, Establecimiento Las Marías is one of the leading forestry-industrial groups with entirely national capital and is associated with, and has founded, several of the leading organizations and associations in the sector. These include: the Argentine Forestry Association (AFOA); the Corrientes Forestry Association - Fire Management Consortium; and the Northern Corrientes Forestry Consortium (CFCN). The Corrientes Wood and Related Association (AMtForestal Las Marías S.A.), a company established for the industrialization and marketing of wood, has a modern sawmill with an annual production capacity of 70,000 m3 of sawn timber, consuming 170,000 tons of roundwood. Nearly 70% of the sawn timber is sold internationally, primarily dimensioned lumber. The main destinations are China, Vietnam, the Philippines, the United States, and various Central American countries. Some of these destinations have chain of custody, allowing FSC® certification to reach the customer. The Las Marías Group's commitment to sustainable forest management is demonstrated by its membership in the FOREST STEWARDSHIP COUNCIL®, A.C. (Southern Economic Chamber) since 2004. The Las Marías Group is also a founding member of the Civil Association Council for the Responsible Management of Forests and Forest Spaces, a promoter of the National FSC Initiative in the region.
