U.S. lumber production rose 4.1% through May of 2010, for a total of 10.149 billion board feet (bbf), according to the Western Wood Products Assn. Production in the West was up 11.6%, while the South was down 2.4%. Nationwide, for May alone, production totaled 2.312 bbf, up 5.6% compared to May 2009.

Canadian lumber production for May 2010 finished 22.1% ahead of May 2009, according to Statistics Canada. Overall, the country is 19% ahead of the year-ago pace, with a production rate of 9.1 bbf
